WHAT IS ROOT AND WING?

Root and Wing is a small, independent venture offering high-quality, small-scale nature-based events. I started it in late 2024 to get more people excited about the natural world, with a particular focus on walks and talks for children.

The money raised through these events helps me support small conservation projects that wouldn’t otherwise have the funding for specialist help.

Right now, most of this work is centred on the Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project, where many of the events also take place.

Who is George?

After graduating from Bangor University in 2022, I began my career in conservation with the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, working on the Rutland Osprey Project for three years.

During that time, I helped develop the project’s engagement strategy and ran events to share its work with the public. It was through this that I discovered my real passion: helping people feel more interested and invested in the wildlife around them.

After leaving the Trust, I wanted to focus on my own growth while supporting smaller projects that often go under the radar. That’s how Root and Wing began.
